Once again it is time for stories. On the 28th of January 2012, at 8pm the tellers of Story-O are back and welcome you to an enjoyable evening of storytelling at the Centre for Creative Practices, 15 Pembroke Street Lower, Dublin. The storytellers will open their treasure trove for you and present you legends from all around the world as well as tales with a twist and stories to warm your heart on a cold day. One of the most innovative professional storytellers in Ireland invites you to learn the secrets of un-writing the traditional tale in preparation for live peformance.

Workshop leader Coilín "The Oh-Aissieux" is the founder-director of the Narrative Arts Club, which has been bringing innovative storytelling to audiences in Dublin city centre since September 2005. Most recently, he has collaborated with two very talented musicians, Rich Flynn and Claire Fitch, to perform Inuit and ancient Irish tales in the context of original electronic soundscapes.

In this workshop, you will gain confidence in:

* Turning the printed text into an engaging tale for live performance.

* Enriching your stories with description, dialogue and movement.

* Creating intimacy with the listener.

* Evoking a diversity of emotional responses from your audience.

The workshop will provide you with everything you need, including a diverse choice of texts from Inuit, Irish and Italian, Buddhist, Sufi and other sources. All you need to bring is a set of comfortable clothes, including good socks.

Meanwhile, Ambiencellist Claire Fitch brings her cello with an armoury of electronic effects to create evocative soundscapes, in which the tales unfold with unprecedented power.

Claire Fitch is a cellist, composer, improviser and string arranger who performs regularly with the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, The Orchestra of St Cecelia and the Irish Film Orchestra. Her award-winning music production company has provided music for games, ﬁlm, advertising, theatre and television. Marshmallow Ladyboy Jesus 5 – Jesus Blood Never Failed Me (Yet), is an evening of blasphemous experimental comedy from some of Ireland’s most talented writers, comedians and storytellers.

This months guests include:

Hugh Cooney – Ireland’s most experimental humorist. His often hilarious, and always disturbing videos and interactive art comedy performances have made him a hit in clubs and music festivals alike. Cooney’s art school background and outsider status make him the perfect figure to push the Irish comedy scene out of it’s zombie somnambulance.

Aidan Killian is a standup comedian and comedy teacher who runs one of Dublin’s most successful comedy clubs ‘Laugh Out Loud’ at Anseo.

Sarah Griffin & Lisa Keegan – Dublin writresses living in Galway. Together they host the teenage cringe confessions night, ‘Scarleh Fer Yer Ma Fer Havin Ya’, where performers compete to read their most embarrassing diary entry or cringe inducing teenage poetry.

Rowan Managhan is a career management consultant, and author of the book ‘Where’s My Oasis? The essential handbook for everyone wanting that perfect job’. He is a business man who’s mantra is ‘We are all cave-men in good suits.’

Alison Spittle is one of Ireland’s best young female comedians. Half traveller, half hyper-intelligent ball of self deprecating charm and wit.

Film maker and ‘Milk & Cookies Stories’ star storyteller Thomas Rowley is the man behind the new Storymap Dublin project. His anecdotes of romantic misadventure are helping to popularise ‘Moth’ style comedic storytelling in Dublin.

Kevin Gildea is a comedian, writer, actor described by the Guardian as ‘quirky’, ‘innovative,’ ‘creative’ and ‘pioneering’ and by The Sunday Times as ‘highly original and explosively funny’. He is familiar to TV viewers from his appearance in Father Ted and RTE’s ‘The View’. His bleakly hilarious comic fiction brings to mind Flann O’Brien, as performed by David Sedaris.

Narrative Arts Oh-Aissieux is one of the foremost figures in the Irish storytelling revival. As one half of Dublin’s Narrative Arts Club he’s been telling ancient stories in a modern idiom at Irish and international festivals since 2005.

Performance artist Philippe Senouci was the most exciting thing about the recent NCAD end of year show. His Beckettian nightmare piece ‘Performing Abjection’ was both hilarious and frightening. We look
forward to his unpredictable contribution to the evening.

Milk and Cookie Stories is a non-profit storytelling group based in Dublin, Ireland. We're looking to find out what stories our city has to tell. Storytelling, though very much a thriving art form, is rarely the focus of any event or performance. We believe that storytelling deserves to be placed in the spotlight. Dublin needs a place for people to come to hear a good story, and maybe tell one - we aim to provide that place. Milk and Cookies isn’t just for writers and performers – we would like anyone who has a tale to tell, or wants to hear a story told well, to have a warm, relaxed environment to do just that. A place with tea, cushions, cookies and friends.

The theme for this month is Truth or Fiction. Here’s the deal – after each story we’ll ask you to vote to see if you think what you’ve just heard is a true story that actually for-reals happened, or a sickeningly imaginative fabrication dredged from the hyperactive imagination of one who’s just had a few too many cookies.

Storytelling for Children at the Dublin Rose Festival in St Anne's Park, Raheny, on Saturday 17th July from 11am

You are invited to come along and bring the kids to a Storytelling Session with Seosamh O Maolalaí at The Dublin Rose Festival Saturday 17th July In St. Anne’s Park, Raheny. Kids of all ages from 0 - 99+ welcome.
The storytelling will take place out in the sun, le cúnamh Dé, beside the Dublin City Libraries Story Bus. The Rose Festival takes place all around the beautiful Rose Garden in St Annes.
Seosamh (that's me!) will be entertaining the kids with stories from picture books and from his head, in English with a bit of Irish and a smattering of other tongues.
He will be getting the audience involved so if you fancy telling a tale yourself, do come along.
The Rose Festival is run by Dublin City Council Parks Dept. There's a rake of stuff going on in Dublin parks over the summer. Check out dublincity.ie for the details.

I just wanted to let you know about a really really cool live literary show that happening this Saturday (May 1st) in the Sugar Club, Dublin. Its called the Literary Death Match and it promises to be an event not to be missed. And I'll be there as one of the judges. Here be the schpeel...

Hey guys, first of all thanks so much to everyone who came along to the show last month. It was great to be back and I think it was probably the best night we've had yet. So having consulted the calender and tried to figure out which night wasn't going to have any Champions League on, we've gone and booked in April's show for Wednesday the 14th.

Signs are awesome for another brilliant night. I'm super hopeful of having a super special guest, but you have to come along on the night to see who it is. Doors are at 7.30pm upstairs in 4 Dame Lane and as usual, its free in.

IF YOU HAVEN'T BEEN BEFORE... Not Also, But Only is a monthly comedy storytelling night hosted by Shane Langan (from Diet of Worms). Its been running for a year (although it took a short long break in the middle) and in the past we've had on the likes of David O'Doherty, Kevin Gildea, Maeve Higgins, Jarlath Regan, Barry Murphy and even the League of Gentlemen's Jeremy Dyson. Its one of the funnest, most laid-backest, free-est gigs you could hope to find.

Story? Milk & Cookie Stories is proud to give some formality to announcing our latest event, in association with Exchange Words, will be taking place in Exchange Dublin on Tuesday 9th March. Doors as ever at 6.30pm, show as ever at 7pm, and we end as ever, when we feel like it. Which is 10pm. Ish.

After hours spent accidentally blowing each other up in our top-secret underground Cookie Lab, we decided to share the fun amongst the masses by naming Mad Science as our theme for this month. Feel free to tell a story about anything you want, although we may give priority to our brothers and sisters in metaphorical lab coats and safety goggles.

Milk and Cookie Stories is for anyone who has a story to tell, or wants to hear a tale told well, in a relaxed, friendly environment ~ a place with tea, cushions, cookies and friends. The event consists of open mic storytelling, with one or two featured storytellers. Our event is free and everyone is welcome. We encourage stories of all kinds; traditional, animation, musical, anything – all we ask it that it tells some kind of story, be under 10 minutes long, and if at all possible that it's a story that's told, rather than read. There's something in storytelling which brings people together in a different way to a reading or more traditional performance; and at Milk & Cookie Stories this is what we want to try and share.

You might have a two minute anecdote about something that happened to you on the bus on the way in, or an epic confession of your darkest secrets that you've yearning to share for years. Either way, we want to see you on stage. Milk & Cookie Stories is made by the stories great and small that everyone carries around with them, so please don't be afraid to sign up!

We like to bring a big 'ol bag of cookies and treats for every event – but we absolutely love it when everyone pitches in and brings something to nibble on. All cookies/cakes/nice things we receive are shared out amongst the crowd, and as long as you didn't get them in the shop they're also entered into the highly prestigious Milk & Cookie Stories BAKE-OFF! Baked by the people, judged by the people, and with prizes to be won that will absolutely melt your face. One of life's greatest question: What are the ingredients of the perfect story? At the Mixing Bowl, we aim to answer this question... or at least, have fun playing around with the recipe!

February 7th saw the first meeting of our Story Circle, Milk and Cookies' new storytelling workshop group. Now wooden spoon primed, ideas ready for the mixing, our workshop group is back for a second time around- sporting a shiny new name 'the Mixing Bowl'.

The Mixing Bowl is an intimate workshop group for storytellers and story enthusiasts to build their story writing and telling skills. For the first time storyteller, the Mixing Bowl will provide a friendly environment in which you can build your confidence before you take to the stage at our event! For the practiced performer, it will be a great place for you to get some feedback on your work. During our second workshop, we will continue to explore story writing and telling through exercises and games. The workshop will be facilitated by storyteller Adam Wilson and writer Sarah Griffin.
